Follow me as I follow Jesus

Monday Morning Munch No. 129 – Too long for Twitter

mainheaderTWITTER-04

Sometimes 140 characters just isn’t enough.

Take this ironic gem by Jonny Ox for example:

Don’t expect her
to paraphrase her life for you;
she was born to be a story.
And if you can’t understand that,
then perhaps she’s beyond your reading level.

Here are a handful of quotes exceeding 140 characters that have filled my drafts on Twitter for months.

Elisabeth Elliot: The choice [to trust God] has nothing to do with mood but is a deliberate act of laying hold in the character of God whom circumstances never change.

Cindy Cochrum: Every follower of Jesus has received gifts through the Spirit. No exceptions. That means no one is off the hook, and no one is in a class of uber-elites.

Matt Chandler: What good is it in the eyes of the Lord, whose estimations matters most, if we look great but our reputations are lousy? Only one of those things will last.

Archbishop Fenelon: You want to die, but to die without any pain… you must give all or nothing when God asks it. If you have not the courage to give, at least let Him take.

John Bunyan, writing from prison: I never had in all my life so great an inlet into the Word of God as now. Scriptures that I saw nothing in before are made in this place to shine upon me.

Steve Shadrach: The Lord is not impressed by what we say, do, or look like on the outside. He puts a stethoscope on our heart, not trying to identify our ability but our availability.

Elisabeth Elliot: God knew what we’d get into by sinning, and has made provision for us. Let’s live it—do it—or shut up and quit pretending to follow Christ.

Kathleen Nielson: Our ministries exist not simply for the purpose of helping people live well now; our ministries, like our whole lives, must aim for the end, when we’ll see Jesus face-to-face.

Rodney Calfee: If people are worth the relationship because they are created in God’s image, then they are worth it whether they ever follow Jesus or not.

Matt Chandler: The reason we struggle in relationships, marriage, and sex is because we are sinners. Therefore, the antidote for our sin must be the antidote for our struggles.
