Monday Morning Munch No. 121 – Silent + Singing

wave-ocean

“When Christian theology declares that God is wise, it means vastly more than it says or can say, for it tries to make a comparatively weak word bear an incomprehensible plentitude of meaning that threatens to tear it apart and crush it under the sheer weight of the idea. ‘His understanding is infinite,’ says the psalmist. It is nothing less than infinitude that theology is here laboring to express. Since the word infinite describes what is unique, it can have no modifiers. We do not say ‘more unique’ or ‘very infinite.’ Before infinitude we stand silent.”

-A.W. Tozer, Knowledge of the Holy

Before infinitude we stand silent. But there is a paradox. Yes, before Infinitude we have no words, we are speechless, we are voiceless at the view of holiness, we are silent while falling to our knees as a dead man.

But.

With one glimpse of the Infinite One we are at once silent and singing. For with the life-changing, heart-melting, repentance-inducing vision of the nail-scarred Savior we join the worship of infinity. The eternal choir. The forever song.

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts;
the whole earth is full of His glory!” -Isaiah 6:3

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,
to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might
and honor and glory and blessing!” […]

“To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb
be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” -Revelation 5:12b, 13b
