Monday Morning Munch No. 104 – Five Puritan Quotes

IMG_5889

I love quotes, don’t you?

Quotes are little pieces of the legacies of those around us. They reveal the hearts and beauty of people we do life with or those who have blazed a trail befor us. Quotes can be funny or sweet or soothing or inspiring or packed with wisdom, as is the case with the following quotes from a few of the wisdom-filled Puritans. I hope they encourage you as they, though dead, still speaketh.

“Afflictions add to the saints’ glory. The more the diamond is cut, the more it sparkles; the heavier the saints’ cross is, the heavier will be their crown.” -Thomas Watson

“Most of God’s people are contented to be saved from the hell that is without; they are not so anxious to be saved from the hell that is within.” -Robert Murray M’Cheyne

“Doth God give us a Christ, and will he deny us a crust? If God doth not give us what we crave, He will give us what we need.” -Thomas Watson

“If the Lord should bring a wicked man to heaven, heaven would be hell to him; for he who loves not grace upon earth will never love it in heaven.” -Christopher Love

“The law breaks the hard heart, but the Gospel melts it. A stone duly broken, may be still a hard stone; but the Gospel melts.” -Ralph Erskine

BONUS:

“No heart can conceive that treasury of mercies which lies in this one privilege, in having liberty and ability to approach unto God at all times, according to his mind and will.” -John Owen
