I can’t cry on command.
Sometimes I wish I could, but it just doesn’t happen, so if you see my eyes leaking, it’s legit.
For the last several days I’ve been in tears pretty consistently. Tears of brokenness, repentance, confusion, sorrow and frustration, as well as tears of joy, love, excitement, amazement and worship.
Here are three(ish) [positive] things that made the tears flow:
1. Ephesians 2:12-22
The Gospel brings the tears almost every time, especially in this passage rich with the reality of who we were and who we are because of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. He brought down the dividing walls of hostility and made peace for us, reconciling us to Himself through the bloody and beautiful cross. We have access to God! We have hope! We have JESUS! Praise and raise.
2a. I Like Adoption (video)
This is the multi-colored family I’ve always dreamed of having! (And I’ll definitely be the “gas-pedal” mom.) Praise God for the Gospel that rescues, ransoms, reconciles and adopts people from every tribe and tongue and nation. Galatians 4:4-7, Revelation 5:9.
2b. This demonstration of the Gospel (video)
Again, adoption never fails to make me cry.
3. I Wish I Would Have Held Her Hand More
I kid you not, just writing that made my eyes fill. In this blog published on The Gospel Coalition, R. C. Sproul Jr., reflects on his deepest regret: that he did not hold his wife’s hand more when she was alive.
The tears just keep coming.
