(The following is an unedited prayer based on Psalm 16 from April 9, 2014)
Dear Soul,
You have no good apart from the Lord. The holy, blameless Lord who created you, redeemed you and is even now crafting you more and more into the image of Jesus Christ. Take refuge in Him and Him alone, Soul, for the sorrows of those who run after another god multiply. That relationship or acceptance or validation might look enticing, but it never returns its promises in full. Only Jesus does that.
Soul, put your hope in the Lord and in Him alone. Delight yourself in Him and in His body, the church. He is your chosen portion and cup. Whatever He chooses to put in that cup is up to Him but by His grace do not try to force anything in that cup that doesn’t belong.
Wait for the Lord. His promises are good and His ways are steadfast and sure. He has a beautiful inheritance for you. Be faithful to the work to which He has called you and trust His hold on your life.
Bless the Lord, Soul, for He shepherds your heart and gives you counsel. He leads you in both day and night and when the sun is hidden, it is He who lightens your darkness with the pure blaze of His glory. Set the Lord before you and you won’t be shaken. Place Him at your right hand and your heart will be glad and your whole being will rejoice.
On top of that, you will experience the security you’ve always longed for. He won’t abandon you to hell and He won’t allow corruption to pass before your eyes.
Rest in His Truth, Soul. Rest and be revived. He makes known to you the path of life and in His presence there is fulness of joy. Did you catch that, Soul? No shortage, just complete, full joy. At His right hand are pleasures forevermore. Soul, find your true satisfaction, hope, security, love and joy there. You won’t find it anywhere else.
Anything else you might find is cheap imitations that are fleeting and meaningless.
Oh my Soul, praise Him for He is Thy health and salvation.
