Follow me as I follow Jesus

Monday Morning Munch No. 83 – A Quick Reminder

IMG_3201

Sometimes I get distracted.

I lose sight of the most important things.

I forget.

Forget what?

The beauty and splendor and majesty of the cross of Christ.

Do you ever get that way?

If I don’t intentionally command my soul (as David did in Psalm 103) to worship and bless the Lord, my ADD heart will choose a million lesser things.

Here are five quotes I read this week from Greg Gilbert’s What is the Gospel? that challenged me to gaze at the glory of Christ while striving for holiness and making war against sin. I hope it encourages you in your fight of faith and reminds you of the amazing salvation the Master of the universe has called you into.

“An emaciated Gospel leads to emaciated worship. It lowers our eyes to self and cheapens what God has accomplished for us in Christ. The biblical Gospel, by contrast, is like fuel in the furnace of worship. The more you understand about it, believe it, and rely on it, the more you adore God both for who He is and for what He has done for us in Christ.”

“When we put our faith in Jesus, we are relying on Him to stand as our substitute before God, in both His perfect life and His penalty-paying death for us on the cross.”

“Where genuine renunciation of sin is not present, neither is genuine faith in the One who defeated it.”

“Because we will continue to struggle with sin until we are glorified, we have to remember that genuine repentance is more fundamentally a matter of the heart’s attitude toward sin than it is a mere change of behavior. Do we hate sin and war against it, or do we cherish it and defend it?”

“There is always a danger that when we begin to see fruit in our lives, we’ll subtly begin to rely on that fruit for our salvation instead of on Christ.”

But the LORD sits enthroned forever; He has established His throne for justice, and He judges the world with righteousness; He judges the peoples with uprightness. The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know Your name put their trust in You, for You, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You. -Psalm 9:7-10 ESV
