Monday Morning Munch No. 76 – Smorgasbord Round Two

smorgasbord

Several, several, weeks back (in August…) I wrote a little blog titled “Smorgasbord” with a collection of quotes listed. One of the sweetest people in the world, Hope, encouraged me to do a “smorgasbord” blog more often. So, here is round two.

Reminder: Smorgasbord is Swedish for buffet, but my grandmother says it all the time regarding anything with variety. And, I have to admit, I like saying it. It’s a fun word.

Today this blog is going to be a smorgasbord of quotes, verses and music that have been especially fascinating to my heart lately and I hope you are encouraged.

Smorgasbord of Quotable Goodness

“Help me to know continually that there can be no true happiness,
no fulfilling of Thy purpose for me,
apart from a life lived in and for the Son of Thy love.”
-Valley of Vision

[“Give me grace to always keep covenant with Thee, and to reject as delusion a great name here or here after…”]

“The Gospel is not good news about Jesus, Jesus is the good news.” -Michael Durham

[Are you glorying in the right Gospel?]

“And they were astonished beyond all measure, saying, ‘He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.'” -Mark 7:37

[Oh, that people would say this about Jesus today.]

“Without the Gospel, the only strength we have is in ourselves.” -Whitt Madden

[Woah. I had never looked at it in that way before. Praise the God for the beauty and perfect obedience of Jesus Christ!]

“Jesus hasn’t stopped calming storms just because He isn’t asleep on boats anymore.” -Kofi Adu-Boahen

[So much truth. The One who calmed the storm when the disciples were scared is the same One who calms the fierce winds that sometimes swirl around inside my heart. We serve an unchanging, unwavering, unaltering God!]

Smorgasbord of Musical Goodness

“Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery” – This is the acoustic version by Matt Papa. Although Matt Boswell’s version is my favorite, I couldn’t find a video of it, so here you go. This is still awesome.

“Come behold the wondrous mystery
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory

See the price of our redemption
See the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured, love untold”

“Beautiful Eulogy” -by Beautiful Eulogy. Warning: this is an artsy rap song… and I love it so much. (If you’re interested, the super-solid, theologically sound lyrics are in the description on the actual youtube page.)

“If it pleases my Lord, and only by Your grace, use my
life till it’s poured out for Your sake. Until then I’ll
remain where You have me, with joy when I feel unhappy. And
a peace that surpasses all my understanding, my life is in
the hands of Your love everlasting.”

“Oceans” -by Hillsong United. One of my all-time favorite songs and this stripped down, acoustic version is beautiful. Chills. Every time.

“Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You’ve never failed and You won’t start now”
