Smorgasbord. Isn’t that the weirdest word?
It’s Swedish for buffet, but my grandmother says it all the time regarding anything with variety. And, I have to admit, I like saying it. It’s a fun word.
Well, this blog is going to be a smorgasbord of different quotes and verses that God has used in my life this week and I pray you’re encouraged.
Smorgasbord of Quotable Goodness
“Be happy in Him, O my heart,
and in nothing but God,
for whatever a man trusts in,
from that he expects happiness.”
-Valley of Vision
[Whoa]
“Let us count nothing common or unclean, but feel that all created things point to their Maker, and the field will at once be hallowed.” -Charles Spurgeon
[Lord, may all things lead my heart into a greater exaltation of You.]
“This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. God raised Him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was impossible for Him to be held by it.” -Acts 2:23-24
[These two verses show how powerful Jesus/God is, but also how no one killed Him on accident. He was willingly crucified to carry out the previously made plan of God. Amazing.]
“And with many other words [Peter] bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about 3,000 souls.” -Acts 2:40-41
[These verses jumped out at me because so often we want to avoid any “salvation” that says we have something to do. We are solid in our theology: grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, but sometimes the easy believism mentality scares us into too much of an extreme.
We do have something to do:
accept the pardon.
By doing so we save ourselves from this crooked generation because we now have Jesus, the One who truly and permanently saves.]
“God is writing a history for you that will encourage you to believe Him in the days to come.” -Michael Durham
[This was from our sermon at church yesterday morning and I love it so much. God is writing a history for us, one that is not only preparing us for a future only He can see but one that is establishing a track record of His faithfulness. A perfect track record we can cling to when times are less than perfect. God is so good to us!]
“I know now, Lord, why You utter no answer. You are Yourself the answer. Before Your face questions die away. What other answer would suffice?” -C.S. Lewis
[What other answer would suffice?]
“I have one good reason for you to walk away from temptation right now. One reason: God is better.” -Francis Chan
I like it! It’s very encouraging! And,I REALLY LIKE THAT FUNNY WORD TOO!
Thanks, Rebekah! I can’t wait to meet you soon!!
